As Gary and Mike worked through the design together, the concept began to evolve into something far more personal than the original mockup.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAt the center of the design is a beautiful turquoise pendant—but this isn't simply another piece of turquoise.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eAn Heirloom Finds a New Story\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe turquoise pendant originally belonged to \u003cstrong\u003eKevra's mother\u003c\/strong\u003e. After her passing nearly six years ago, the pendant came into Kevra's care.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWhen the pendant was first considered for Gary's bolo, Gary asked whether the existing metal surrounding the turquoise could be removed, allowing the turquoise itself to become part of the new design.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThen Mike told Gary its story.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAfter learning that the pendant had belonged to Kevra's mother, \u003cstrong\u003eGary asked that the original metalwork remain exactly as it was.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eHe loved the history behind it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eInstead of removing part of the pendant's past to create something new, Gary chose to \u003cstrong\u003epreserve that history and make it part of his own custom bolo tie.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eThen the Design Took Another Turn\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe original concept placed Gary's elk teeth and the heirloom turquoise pendant on a round silver stainless-steel centerpiece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBut Mike had another idea.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eMike knows artisans who create jewelry, furniture, and many other handcrafted pieces using \u003cstrong\u003eelk antler and elk bone\u003c\/strong\u003e.
