The story of Mike's Custom Bolos begins with a memory.
Growing up, Mike watched his grandfather—a traveling minister—move through life with a distinct style: a Stetson hat, cowboy boots, and a bolo tie. Those ties became a signature look that represented both Western heritage and personal character. That memory stuck.
Years later, after retiring from a long career that included business leadership and time as a medic, Mike began reflecting on how he wanted to spend the next chapter of his life. The answer was simple: create something meaningful that connects people.
The bolo tie was the perfect vehicle.
More Than Accessories—Wearable Stories
One of the defining qualities of Mike's Custom Bolos is the deeply personal nature of many pieces we create. Customers often bring meaningful objects—stones, heirlooms, coins, or vintage pieces—and ask us to transform them into a bolo tie that can be worn and remembered.
One of our most memorable experiences happened during the Hogeye Festival in Elgin. A visitor approached with a request: he wanted a bolo tie made from three stones that reminded him of his late father. Together, we designed a custom bolo that incorporated the stones along with the tips from his grandfather's old bolo tie—carefully restored and integrated into the new piece. What resulted was far more than jewelry; it was a wearable tribute to family and memory.
Another customer came to us after inheriting several cameos from her grandmother. She wanted one turned into a bolo tie so she could carry her grandmother's legacy with her in a meaningful way.

Rooted in Community: Elgin, Texas
Mike and his wife moved back to Elgin around 2020, returning to the town where she graduated high school. We quickly became part of the community, sharing our work at local events and placing our bolos in three different stores along Elgin's historic Main Street.
For us, the business is about far more than sales. After decades working in leadership roles and serving as a medic, Mike developed a deep appreciation for people and the stories they carry. That perspective shapes the way we approach every interaction.
